Day 118 Las Herrerias over O Cebreiro to Fonfria

Wow what a day!!! We started off with a little sprinkle that changed to snow as we climbed 930 meters/3000 feet. It was a beautiful winter scene, wait it’s SPRING!! It still was beautiful!!

We came across a most lovely vegetarian cafe after 3 kms of a straight climb up. It was a welcome relief!!

We met a French man in O Cebreiro who started in France and has walked 1400 kms. Today he declared this way is magical. After walking 1400 kms he just found a card from his wife that she put in his backpack. it was so sweet.

There was a little shop in the village. We went in and found a couple of items. When getting ready to pay the man asked us where we were from. So we told him a short version of our story. He said, “I have something for you!” And came back with a set of four small tiles. It was really beautiful. I teared up. It was so sweet.

We are at a beautiful albergue that has a fun communal meal. There was a birthday, some dancing, lots of good food. And we connected with Uroš and met new pilgrims. A good day.

The weather cleared.

Before dinner

After dinner

Still another great day.

Day 117 Trabedelo to Las Herrerias Facebook blocked my post

I woke this morning to discover that my blog post from yesterday was removed by Facebook for violating their rules. I read the information they shared about why and contested it, asked for a review. Then just posted it again. And slowly shared it with groups throughout the day. So far it’s still up.

What I noticed is that it didn’t really upset me. I asked for the review. I had a plan of action and moved forward. I think this camino has helped me come into a place of calm. Thank God!!

This is Knut’s cat

Our communal dinner and sharing at Casa Susi was so nice. Susi recommended a place 5 kms away for breakfast. A Danish man, Knut has a place and offers a healthy breakfast.

It was absolutely beautiful. The best breakfast we have had so far after almost four months of traveling: yogurt with cereal and fruit, bread with cheese and jam, omelette with veggies, coffee and juice. We were both so excited and engaged in conversation that we forgot photo evidence.

Here is a photo of the church next door
Another of his kitty

He has an albergue/hotel and a cafe. Knut offers healthy food which is an alternative to the standard pilgrim’s menu. We had a great conversation about positive energy and thinking.

The garden

Today was only 11 kms. We are a little bit up the mountain that we climb tomorrow. 6-8 kms straight up, depending on who you talk to. We will take it slow.

Uroš is still meeting us along the way. And he is feeling much better. So glad to hear this. Yesterday I offered my extra pair of sandals to Trudy, a Dutch woman who was struggling, that felt nice because she accepted and it’s less weight for us.

It feels strange and also good to be coming to the conclusion of this epic journey. It doesn’t feel like the end, but rather the start of more. More what? I’m not sure but it feels like another beginning.

Stay tuned.

Day 116 Camponaraya to Trabedelo Casa Susi—Home!

We walked from Camponaraya to Trabedelo today. It was a good day. Col, cloudy and threatening rain all day.

We thought our friend Uroš was moving beyond us today. We got a message from him asking us to wait for him. He wasn’t feeling well. So we walked close together today.

He declared he was now our child and was going to walk into Santiago with us.

We arrived into Trabedelo and were warmly welcomed by Susi and Fermin. This place always feels like home. If you are looking for a near perfect albergue (okay the perfect albergue) come here.

Susi and Fermin make everyone feel like family!!

Such a nice day!!
